Be Thou At Peace

Brigader General Daniel Geran (Ret.)

Daniel Boone Geran, 84, of Santa Fe, New Mexico died Friday, October 13, 2017 at home following a 54 month battle with the effects of a debilitating stroke suffered in 2013. Dan, a retired Brigadier General in the United States Air Force, is survived by his wife of 61 years, Josephine (Joey) R. Geran, and their son and daughter, George of Santa Fe and Liz of Burlington, Vermont, and Liz's husband, Brendan Kelly. Dan also had two grandchildren, Abby and Geran Wales.

Dan was born in 1933 in Marion. Ohio to Esther Turner Geran and George T. Geran. After graduation from the United States Military Academy (West Point) in 1955, he entered the Air Force because he wanted to fly. He remained in the Air Force for more than 30 years, flew B-47s and C-123s, and served in the Viet Nam War (based in Da Nang). Returning to the United States, Dan worked extensively at Air Force Headquarters in the Research and Development Program, and as an Air Force Liaison to the United States Congress. He next became Air Force Comptroller for Europe and retired from his position as a Commander of the Accounting and Finance Center of the United States Air Force in Denver, Colorado. During his time with the Air Force, he also secured two Master's Degrees, one a MBA from the University of Chicago in 1963 and another from the United States Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1972. Thereafter he moved to Santa Fe, where he stayed for the remaining 30 years of his life, working 17 to those years as an executive for Los Alamos Technical Associates in Los Alamos.

Dan loved his family, his country, the Air Force and his many faithful animal companions. He also thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing and a good detective novel. Post-Stroke he and his son George regularly watched television together, and he became a great fan of the Game of Thrones.

His ashes will be laid to rest in the United States Military Cemetery in Santa Fe on November 9, 2017 following a short military service with honors. The burial ceremony is scheduled for 11:15 am and friends may attend the ceremony. They may also call at the family home from 3 to 5 p.m. that day.

The family wishes to thank all who cared for Dan during his long illness.
