Jerra D. Hotchkiss, 74, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Mission Hospital, due to a stroke.

She is survived by her husband, John, her loving partner for 52 years, and children, Jeffrey, with wife, Karen, of Portland, Ore; daughter, Holland, of Iowa City, Iowa; and John, with wife, Bophal, and son, Khameran, of Needham, Mass. She also leaves behind her sisters, Paula Smith, of Herrin, Ill., and Eleanor Freund, of Springfield, Mo., and their children and grandchildren.

Jerra was born in Carthage, Mo., of parents, Paul and Erlene Downey, and graduated from Drury College in Springfield, Mo.

Following graduation, she received a scholarship to Tobe Coburn School for Fashion Careers in New York City, completing work there in 1955, the year she married John. Jerra worked as a public school teacher in Texas before having her first child, and later served as executive secretary to an entrepreneur in Seattle and to a senior executive at Garfinckel's in Washington, D.C. Her last formal work was with an interior design studio in Manhattan Beach, Calif., which she enjoyed immensely.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Morris Funeral Home at 304 Merrimon Ave., Asheville.
