Be Thou At Peace

All day yesterday I thought about a picture I took of my fathers hands. I took it because of how important those hands were in my life. They worked hard, held us as babies, held my hand when I was little as we walked through New York City, took care of my mother and brought her roses and gifts just because. Those hands almost always held a camera and taught us how to use one and how to develop film into pictures. Those hands held mine while he lay in the hospital after a devastating stroke and was telling me it will be alright. So many memories of those hands and the dad they belonged to. The dad that showed me what tenacity is, strength, dedication, integrity. The dad that showed his soft side in loving my mother, by teaching us to love and respect animals. He showed us that some things are worth a booming belly laugh. and how to pick good fruit - especially crunchy apples. He taught us to fish and camp and to leave things better than you found them. And he certainly did that- this world is better because he was here serving, doing his part to make it so. Though I miss him and wish he was still here, I�m certain that he�s in heaven continuing his passion for serving and teaching.
