Fred was one of my favorite people at West Point. His personal interactions had a spontaneity, a mixture of assertiveness and humility, in perfect proportion. He was a "Natural." He had a nickname for me, "Birdlegs." Every time I see a spindly legged man in short pants, I think of him and his wonderful, cheering sense of humor. He enriched my life. |
