Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Carl H. McNair, Jr. on November 20, 2013:

Having served in First Regiment together during our cadet years, Perry and I shared classes, intramurals and Sunday School Teaching as well. During the three decades of Army service that followed, our paths crossed in Vietnam where we both served as Battalion Commanders, then later on the ARSTAFF in OCRD and also in TRADOC during overlapping tours.

A fine Artilleryman, Perry was one of the few members of our class who held the distinction of commanding two Artillery Battalions, back to back, quite an achievement. For his final active duty assignment, he returned to the Army War College on the Staff and Faculty. Such service was a further credit to his academic insights which served him well in retirement as he taught high school physics for fifteen years.

His artistic talents were a passion, as reflected in the 1955 Howitzer, as well as his personal comments a half century later in the 50th Reunion Yearbook.

May Perry now rest in the arms of the Almighty, brushes and palette in hand, as he now views first hand the glory and infinite beauty of the Heavens to record on canvas for those who will follow.

Grip Hands - Faithfully,

Carl McNair, Classmate and Friend
