William Perry Boyd

West Point, 1955

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dan Moses on November 25, 2013:

I attended the Memorial Service and Funeral for William Perry Boyd, Class of 1955 at New Bethelem Free Will Baptist Church, Grantsboro, N.C. on Saturday, 23 Nov., 2013.

His Family:

Wife: Barbara Boyd, bboyd-unc@yahoo.com, 2005 Old Oxford Road, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27514

Two Daughters: Caroline Boyd, Philadelphia, Pa and Melinda Boyd, Chapel Hill, N.C.

Was a very moving, wonderful service with lots of great comments about how Perry had influenced their lives, and always had time and gifts for them!

His daughter, Melinda Boyd, and several of his other relatives gave such from-the-heart comments about what Perry meant to them and their love for him.

One of the Preachers pointed to where Perry use to sit in church while he was growing up. One of the preachers was a relative of Perry.

I learned during the service that Perry was President and Valedictorian of his Senior Class. A federal judge in the audience during his high school presentation asked him if he would like to go to West Point, and he said "YES". He attended East Carolina University for several years, and then got an appointment to West Point.

The Honor Guard was from the 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, N.C. They were outstanding as pallbearers, rendering a two-volley salute, and Major Melton presenting the United States flag to Barbara and her family. Perry was buried in the cemetery next to the church.

I asked Caroline Boyd to send a copy of Perry's obituary to Bob Hasbrouck. Bob has agreed to do the write up for Perry. I have mailed Bob a copy of the Memorial Service, and the Funeral.

Prayers For His Family During This Difficult Time
