Cemetery #2, Selma, TX

Thomas Gerald "Tom" Weaver was born into an Army family on October 17, 1932 at Fort Hayes in Columbus, OH. His initial education began at Fort Hayes until the family moved to San Antonio, TX in 1942. Here he attended and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1950. Always a good student and coming from an Army family, Tom decided to continue his education at West Point. Securing an appointment, he qualified for admittance and joined the West Point Class of 1955 on July 3, 1951.

While at West Point Tom found time to continue his athletic pursuits as a member of the Plebe Football Team (and later with the Army "C" Squad) and the Handball Club. Tom's Catholic faith and his church were a vital part of his cadet life, and thus he found time to serve as a member of the Catholic Church acolytes squad. Those who knew Tom were impressed with his irrepressible sense of humor, his commitment to excellence and his willingness to reach out to others. Academics were not one of Tom's strengths, thus they presented a minor challenge, although he did well with Portuguese. He did well enough academically, however, to finish in the top half of his class, and at Branch Selection Night he was in good position to select Air Force as his branch of choice.
Soon after graduation and before his reporting to his first assignment, Tom married the love of his life, Mary Sue (Volz). During the course of over 60 years of marriage they raised a family consisting of Michael, Susan, Robert, and Clare.

Colonel Weaver was a command pilot with 171 combat missions over North and South Vietnam in the RF-101 Voodoo. He considered his tour as a tactical officer at West Point and as an air staff officer in the Pentagon as the most interesting and challenging of his 23 years of service. Along the way he found time to graduate from the Air War College and attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a master's degree in systems management.
During his service time he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 14 clusters, and the Army and Air Force Commendation medals.

Following his retirement in 1978, Tom launched a second career in water resource management as the general manager of the Cibolo Creek Municipal Authority, a position he held for 18 years. He continued his involvement with water issues as a board member of the San Antonio River Authority, serving 18 years on the board, including one term as the chairman. In addition to this service, Colonel Weaver served seven years as a board member of the Alamo Area Council of Governments, secretary of the Universal City Industrial Development Corporation, and co-chairman of the Randolph Restoration Advisory Board.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Sue, his daughter Sue and his granddaughter Kelly. He leaves behind his grateful children: Michael (Polly), Robert (Alyson), and Clare (Tim) Taylor; his brother, Lamar; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
