COL Chikalla was the Commandant of Cadets at Norwich University when I was attending. I had the privilege of being the Cadet Regimental Commander and had unfettered access to his office and counsel. I look back with very fond memories of him as a mentor and leader. He allowed the cadets to find our own way and to develop leadership traits through discovery learning. It's probably embarrassing the minutia that I struggled with and brought to him but he always showed such a calm and rock steady demeanor. I was a young man and was ready to get out and do on my own thing in the Marine Corps. Although I'm sure that I thanked him, I'm also sure that I missed out on many more opportunities to learn and appreciate what I had before me. Many thanks, Sir. |
