Unfortunately, I was not in contact with Bud until recently, and that only by e-mail. Our paths had not crossed since graduation. My main recollection of Bud at West Point was a story I have told many times (and one that was confirmed by him recently). On the first day of law class, the professor was reading aloud the roster of attendees. When he got to Bud's name, he stopped and said, "Bud T. Hall. Is that your God-given Christian name?" Bud assured him that it was, as the class laughed uncontrollably. Bud, I'm sure that St. Peter, as he checked your name off in his book, asked, "Bud T. Hall. Is that your God-given Christian name?" I could only hope that when it's my time, Bud, people will remember me with a good hearty laugh in fond remembrance as I do you. Rest in peace. |
