Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Milton J. Herman, Jr. on June 6, 2007:

During our 1st Class year, I was asked by Roy Thorsen to be the Music Director for the 100th Night Show. I reluctantly accepted believing I really didn't have the time. Thus, somehow I worked with Jack about 2 afternoons a week and with Shelly Freed in one of the halls in the quarters area, I believe over the Sally Port between A-2 and D-2. Jack wrote the music and Shelly and Jack wrote the words for 1 or 2 (or 3 or so?) of the songs used in the show. We were able to complete them a few weeks before the show. Capt Barry Drewes, the Glee Club Director, and really the Director for the Show, put everything together with Roy's and Scotty Adams' help and the help of many others. The songs Jack and Shelly wrote seemed to work well. I don't remember Jack, Shelly or me doing much more. How it all got done was a nice suprise to me - much of the directing and music being done by Capt Drewes and the USMA Band personel. I never knew about all of Jack's talent. Still, a nice memory. Thanks, Jack. Milt
