Lt. Col. Robert L. Wheaton U.S. Army, known by his friends as "Bob", 84, of Memphis, TN. died on 1/2/2019 after a brief illness. He was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and obtained a graduate degree from Columbia University.

He had a career in the Army and was a Vietnam Veteran, retiring from the military in 1976. He then went on to teach undergraduate mathematics.

He was a member of Evangel Baptist Church and loved his church family. He is survived by his wife, Bettye "Chris" Wheaton, his daughters Stacey and Belinda and his grandchildren; Hannah, Becca and Matthew.

Visitation was held on January 7 at Evangel Baptist Church with services at 2 P.M. A reception followed the gravesite service and burial at West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery on January 9.

Rob Williamson '73, President of the West Point Society of the Mid-South, attended the visitation and service. The Society presented the U.S. flag and the expended cartridges from the Honor Guard salute to Bob's wife, Chris, during the internment services.
