George Anthony Burkhart, Jr.
A celebration of life service will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Water Resources Education Center for George A. Burkhart who died at his home June 26, 1997, of cancer. He was 65.
Mr. Burkhart, who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, served in the Army for 22 years as a combat arms commander and strategic planner. He retired in 1976 as a lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Burkhart was born Dec. 28, 1931, in Los Angeles and he moved to Clark County in 1991.
Mr. Burkhart was a volunteer at the Clark County Sheriff's Office's east precinct and was chairman of the East County Citizens Advisory Group. A former vice president and president of the Cascade Park Business Association, Mr. Burkhart helped coordinate Vancouver's annexation of Cascade Park.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, of Portland; two daughters, Kim Oxsen of Corvallis, Ore., and Sue Kasch of Portland; one grandson; and his companion, Adah E. Trapani of Vancouver.
His body was cremated.
