Thomas Lawrence Mullan, Jr.

Army Officer and Real Estate Consultant

Thomas Lawrence Mullan Jr., 65, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who was a real estate consultant, died of lung cancer Dec. 10 at the Hospice of Northern Virginia. A resident of Falls Church, he had lived in the Washington area since 1975.

Col. Mullan retired in 1977 after 22 years with Army. His last assignment was as an adviser to the Joint Chiefs of Staff on strategic arms limitation talks.

Col. Mullan was a native of Queens, N.Y., and a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He received a master's degree in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School.

He served in the infantry and was posted to Iceland, Vietnam and Korea. He was an airborne ranger instructor and battalion commander and a tactical officer at West Point.

After he retired, he was a broker with Century Mortgage and an independent commercial consultant.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Mullan of Falls Church; two children, Thomas Mullan III of Falls Church and Caroline Ann Mullan of Alexandria; and a sister, Jane M. Fiser of Los Gatos, Calif.
