Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bill Harris on April 19, 2004:

Chuck and I were roommates during plebe year. He was a good friend, and like Russ Parsons said above, it was hard to believe he was such a Jock, when he took up fencing. He was "a better man than I" with all his efforts, and did very well with it.

However, the thing I will never forget, he was always quitting smoking. He would quit in the morning, telling me he had had enough, he had thrown all his cigarettes away, and he was through with smoking. Then, about 9:30 PM,. you would see him rummaging through the drawers in his desk, obviously looking for something he had lost. I would ask him, "Chuck, what are you looking for?" to which he would reply, "I recall seeing a cigarette in this drawer, and I thought I'd find it, I really need a cigarette." Such were his efforts to quit, I don't recall if he every really succeeded.

He was a great friend, and a great roommate. Be thou at Peace, Chuck, and thanks for all the happy memories.
