RAYMOND ERIC GUNDERSON Colonel, USA (Retired) Retired Army Colonel Raymond Eric Gunderson passed away on November 1, 2015 at the age of 82. Ray was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 19, 1933 to Colonel Clarence H. Gunderson and Belmar S. Gunderson. He entered the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1952 and graduated in 1955. It was during that time that he met and married the love of his life, Ann L. Rutherford of Falls Church, VA. Ann and Ray remained together for 57 years until Ann's death in 2012. Ray delighted in his role as father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He embraced life with energy, joy, and passion reveling in the potential of each new day. Ray's military career allowed him to travel the world where he met and maintained friendships he cherished his entire life. Ray is, and will be, deeply missed by those left behind. He is survived by a sister, Belmar Shepley Gunderson Lay; two children, Eric Gunderson and Karen Elliot; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in the Spring , the date to be announced. Published in The Washington Post on Nov. 12, 2015 |
