Thomas Cato West

West Point, 1955

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George Jacunski '64 on January 31, 2017:

Tommy West was my cousin. My earliest memories of Tommy were from West Point as both our fathers were stationed there at the same time during my two tours at West Point as a "brat." During my first tour Tommy would ride me on the handle bars of his bike when delivering the "Pointer View" newspaper on post. He would stop at a set of quarters and I would have to run up the walk an actually deliver the paper. At the beginning of my second "brat" tour Tommy was a member of the 1802d Regiment which was the designation (get it, 1802) of the West Point prep school located at Stewart Field in Newburg. As a consequence we saw him frequently then and later when he joined the Class of 1955. At his graduation I had the distinct honor of acting as an altar boy at his marriage. Our families were very close and we saw each other often throughout our careers. After I retired I moved to an ocean side condo in St Augustine FL where Tommy and his sister both had condos. As a consequence we spent the past 20 years telling tales, surf fishing and enjoying the good life. Tommy was a great guy and cousin.
