James J. Pirtle Jr., formerly of Muttontown, New York died January 29, 2015, surrounded by family.

James Pirtle was born in Savannah, Georgia on August 6, 1930 the son of the late James and Margaret Pirtle. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Christie Pirtle, daughters Wendie Russell, Jeremy Burnett, sons James, David and Jonathan, and nine grandchildren.

He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1955. After service in the US Army, James Pirtle joined Liberia Mining Company (LMC) where he was responsible for building the railroad to the port of Monrovia and acquisition of the railroad and mine equipment. Following LMC, he was Vice President for Latin America with International Paper Company.

James Pirtle's Civic Activities included service to the village of Muttontown as the Police Commissioner, Deputy Mayor and Planning Board.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the West Point Association of Graduates Class of 55, 698 Mills Road, West Point, NY 10996
