Joseph David Pettet

No services will be held for Joseph D. Pettet, 69. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pettet, a resident of Oakesdale for 17 years, died April 7. He was born in Pittsburg, Kan.

He attended schools in Kansas and Germany. He also attended Texas A and M and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. N.Y.

Mr. Pettet entered the Army in 1955 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was stationed in Germany in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was an engineer during his service, building bridges and buildings for the military. He also was stationed in Greenland and Alaska before being discharged as a major in 1976.

He moved from Alaska to Bend, Ore., in 1980 and to Oakesdale in 1984. He was fluent in six languages.

Survivors include a daughter, Molly Blume of Redmond, Ore., and one grandson.
