Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Al Bundren on April 22, 2003:

Folk,
After school, I came to know Ski better over the phone than I had while we were there. Oh, we all knew him at school because of all the things had accomplished and that many of you have referred to. But I got to know him better through Ute than I had before. That was because I worked in the National Military Command Center at the time and Ute was an executive assistant to the JCS J-3 and we saw each other almost daily for about seven years. She and Ski were dating and sometimes she would let me talk to him in Florida, I think it was. One time because of the com assets I had available I was able to raise his brother in a conference call to Saudi Arabia when they had a family problem. And I was always pulling for them to get married because I had such high regard for them both that I wanted that to happen. I last saw Ski when we were both in the same brigade in the Ist Cav in Viet Nam. If you had seen him then, on a weenie size firebase out nowhere, you would know that he brought with him all the attributes we all so admired at school. We have lost a star and shall miss him. And my heart-felt condolences to Ute.
