Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Chuck Ewing on March 25, 2009:

If Bill Welter ever had a bad day, even his closest friends never knew it. He was a cheerful presence in everything he did, and his life was a seminar in smiling through.

We inhabited the goat sections together, which is where I first got to know him and his irrepressible outlook. But goatdom was just a way point in that extraordinary life, as the Masters and Ph.D. degrees attest.

Sharing the retirement years with him in Williamsburg was a joyous and entertaining trip. His zest for life led to his extraordinary range of interests and activities, but that was only part of the fun. At the front of everything else was his beloved Sherry and his family, followed closely by '55, for which he did so much so selflessly.

None of us were ready for him to leave, but he will always live in our hearts. Happy landings, old friend.
