Be Thou At Peace

Posted by scott smith on October 18, 2010:

I really didn't get to know Don until the Basic Course at Fort Belvoir and then our first PCS in Korea. Avid sports fan. Dedicated history buff.

Don had a wonderful engineering and economic brain. He was arguably the best off-the-cuff speaker (with the largest active vocaulary) in our class. Don talked me into co-coaching a baseball team with him at Carlisle (Ross played second base, as I recall); in return he agreed to be our son George's god-father.

Don was one of those in the class whose after-retirement accomplishments were as impressive as his deeds during his career. Don's life was a series of triumphs, achieved by his determination to live a balanced, decent life, to always do the right thing, and to act as a fair and good man. It was an honor to know him.
