Be Thou At Peace

Posted by David Abbey on February 26, 2012:

If this is the Don Morelli who was stationed in Schweinfurt in his first duty, what is below is relevant.

I was just looking for him as I'm writing memories of my life. I wanted to know something about his later military life.

I was a PFC and he was a new officer. I was drafted, out of college, and not too thrilled with military life. But knowing him, and even driving his "army blue Buick convertible" was a great thing for me. If/when I got in some little 'trouble' I could always rely on him to help me out of it. He was one officer who really cared about those beneath him in rank.

I recall the party for his gaining First Lt., and how a friend and I, using his car, were able to gather a few of the local, attractive women for the party. And Don Cutrone and I were the only men there without some gold on our shoulders.

So sorry to hear of his passing, and he was a mere 9 months older than I. I only wish I had done this sooner.
