Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George C. Willick on December 24, 2002:

Dec 6, 1933 - June 8, 1974

Died at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs while visiting during June Week from a massive heart attack, but was stationed at Lubbock, Texas, at the time.

Schaumberg's remains were returned to his family home in Bismarck, ND, and interred in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

I have only partial career information: Richard was flying F-102s for the 482nd FIS at Seymour Johnson AFB from Feb '63 to Apr 17, '65 when he was sent TDY 4 months to SE Asia. The 482nd deactivated at the very end of this four month period and upon returning, Richard was assigned to the 314 Air Division, Osan AB, Korea.
