Be Thou At Peace

| John was the most complete human being I've ever met. I knew him for the entire 13 years he taught at the University of Portland School of Engineering, and in that time I saw in him the intellect, the professionalism, and most of all the compassion for others, that make not only a great teacher, but a beautiful person as well. He had tremendous insight into the informal moments of our lives, and was very witty and serious at the same time. When I heard of his passing, somehow the world seemed dimmer and less brave now that he was no longer with us. I will always miss him, and even now, when faced with some seemingly insurmountable personal challenge, always ask myself, " Now what would John do to face this?" |
