Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ken Lang on September 21, 2003:

Richard's funeral service was on Saturday, 20 Sep 2003, at 1330 in the
chapel of the Moore Funeral Home in Arlington TX, Pastor Mike Ramsdell,
officiating. Dick's USMA classmates in attendance included: Charlie
Hamm, Jim McMahon, Jim Stroope, Peter Vann, George Wien, Jack
Woodmansee, Matt Quinn and Ken Lang. The first 6 named were the
pallbearers, the last two were standby pallbearers. During a lovely
service in the chapel, which included two touching vocals by Ray
Charles: "Georgia on my Mind" and "America the Beautiful", a eulogy was
given by one of Dick's friends. Since the friend was unable to attend,
the eulogy was recorded, and replayed during the service.
Following the service, interment was in the adjacent Moore Memorial
Gardens Cemetery. Full military honors were rendered at the gravesite,
including the services of 7 riflemen and a flag detail, as well a
recorded version of "Taps" was played. Friends and family then left the
cemetery to reconvene at Dick's home for refreshments and mutual
support. Grip hands, tho it be from the shadows, Dick. Ken Lang
