Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Becca Tindall on December 31, 2013:

Don and Dorrie were our neighbors in Pine Valley housing at the Air Force Academy. Other neighbors of the class of 1956 were the Daleski's and the Dowells, we were all populating this circle of housing with new additions of sweet children, but none of us as regularly as the Sheehans. Don was, to me, the most sincere and committed Catholic son that I had ever met. It is a wonderful thing to love your religion and your family so much and so devotedly as Don did...nor did he keep his love a secret, but would expound upon it poetically whether or not we were having our Friday martinis together. He meant it, his eyes would glow when he was praising his Dorrie. Dorrie told me he called her every morning after he had arrived at the English Department offices...if nothing more than to say..."My beloved, have I told you lately that you are The Greatest Thing Since Buttered Toast?" She felt the same way about Don and that was also clear.

They have a wonderful family that show the effect of their parents love.... in their lives. What a privilege to have known the Sheehans, we would all actually laugh until we cried together...

Rest in peace, dear Don. Sleep warm.
