West Point, 1956

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Paul Schonberger on October 17, 2009:

I remember Paul as my cadet platoon leader at Camp Buckner in the summer of '55. His class set a high mark for our transition from followers to leaders. He and his fellow detail leaders, among them Ed Valency and Mark Sisinyak, are engraved in my memory. Paul turned out for our early morning log exercises with glee, adding his effort to those who needed help. He always set an example, whether in physical effort or as a Catholic warrior. He probably served Mass more than anyone in the Catholic Squad.

As the Commander, the legendary Colonel Julian Ewell exhorted, "work hard, play hard". Paul was a fantastic example of one who lived life well and to the fullest.

I mourn his passing.
