Be Thou At Peace

Posted by charles robert kottich on October 14, 2009:

I had the distinct pleasure of rooming with Bobby for several years, including our Plebe year. Being a Nebraska country boy, Bobby taught me much about the social ways of the big city and how to be a fullback on our Company football team that he quarterbacked. While there, I also met and got to know his girlfriend, and later wife, Patsy Weihl, a sister of classmate Bill Weihl. My lonely Plebe Christmas was much enhanced by the visit of his parents.

He went Air Force and I joined the Infantry. As such, I only heard second hand info on his career which, unfortunately, included a plane crash that almost took his right arm. He did invite me to join him on a East Coast cruise on his boat in early 2000 decade but my schedule didn't permit it.

A few weeks before his death, they visited our home in Florida. It was our first visit since graduation and I'm so delighted that it happened. Nothing could have forecast the future. Bobby showed me his almost non-existent right shoulder socket and explained how he had to fight the doctors to keep his right arm. Despite that, he almost beat me on the golf course even with borrowed clubs!!

Rest well, my brother.
