Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Diane OCallaghan on June 17, 2017:

I first met Bob in his Junior year at West Point. He had a cast on his arm due to a football injury. Dave Scott, who dated a friend of mine, introduced us. I dated him for more than two years and he and a bunch of his friends came down to Westchester Country Club to life guard at the beach club all summer. I was pinned to him at the time. He graduated in 1956 and I went to his graduation. He received a 1956 Chevy for his graduation. He went to Ft. Benning, Ga. for Jump School and I was a junior in high school. I graduated in 1957 and went to college the following year. We kept in touch and in 1959 I went to University in Switzerland and went to visit Bobby in Germany. I was really too young to settle down, so I gave him his pin back. We stayed in touch and then didn't....

He was a wonderful Cadet and young man and one of his best friends, Charlie Hamm and Skip, who was pinned to my friend from Rye, N.Y. loved him!

I was saddened to hear of Bobby's death. I am sure he was a great Dad and husband. He was one of the best looking men I have ever known. Hope some of his children got his blue eyes!

God bless the Bacon family.
