Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Charlie Glenn on January 18, 2004:

Jesse always had a smile, a happy sense of humor, and was comfortable to be around. He seemed "at home" as a cadet at West Point and was proud to be a member of the Corps. He was dedicated to service to his country and served it well through all his years. We were Company L-1 mates and after graduation we attended together the Artillery Basic Course at Ft. Bliss, Texas. I was married there and Jesse was a member of the wedding party. In addition to being one of the saber holders, he also volunteered to be the back-up Wedding Picture taker. Jesse's pictures turned out to be better than the Professional's. Of course, that didn't surprise me. The last two times I saw Jesse was at our 40th and 45th Class reunions at West Point. He hadn't changed, he was still the same engaging, energetic, and proud member of the band of brothers of the Long Gray Line. His untimely and unexpected passing was a shock to all of us and a reminder of the fragility of life. Well done, be thou at peace Jesse. You will be missed.
