North Easton -- Leo D. McEvoy, beloved husband of Janice (Mone) McEvoy for 63 years, devoted father and grandfather, passed on April 25, 2023.

A lifelong resident of North Easton born in November 1934, the only child of Leo A. McEvoy and Alice E. (Sweeney) McEvoy, raised in North Easton where his Irish Ancestors settled in the middle of the 1800s. Attended Easton Schools and graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 1952, an Honor Roll student, all around athlete and inducted into the Oliver Ames Athletic Hall of Fame. Upon graduation attended Boston College for a year before appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1953.

At the Academy he was a Deans List student and varsity catcher for the Army Baseball team. Army Baseball provided one of lifes most significant events upon his chance meeting with his future wife Janice Mone of Stoughton, at a USMA baseball practice in the Spring 1956, Jan was visiting West Point with a nursing friend from Mass General Hospital School of Nursing. Leo and Jan began dating that summer and soon were engaged.

His athletic highlight occurred in the spring of 1957 during the NY Giants biennial exhibition game before opening day. He was catching when Willie Mays attempted to stretch a triple into an inside-the-park home run. A hard collision at home plate occurred, both players went sprawling. Mays was out.

Leo graduated and was commissioned in 1957, attended Signal Branch School and Airborne School. Jan and Leo married in early December at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton, MA, honeymooned at "Cor Unum", the Trapp Lodge in Stowe, VT.

Army Flight School took them to San Marcos, TX and Fort Rucker, AL, upon completion he was assigned to Fort Monmouth, NJ as an Army Pilot. Enjoyed service life, daughter Susan was born at Ft. Rucker, AL and Kathryn at Ft. Monmouth, NJ. Leo served four years and resigned to take a position with the Foxboro Company, Foxboro MA. Jan and Leo returned to North Easton where son John was born in 1962. It was a very busy family life and the childrens activities were always enjoyed.

Initially Leo was employed in the Systems Division, specializing in Digital Blending Systems for the refining industry. Frequent domestic and international travel was required. Later assignments included the Control System Group and International Sales Group. These experiences were invaluable when he became a Global Account Manager responsible for The BASF Corporation. Travel to their corporate headquarters in Germany, the U.S., and plant sites around the world was necessary and the account consumed most of his later years with the company. On some international trips Jan would accompany Leo and meet clients, colleagues, and families as well as host them on visits to Foxboro. Even with the busy work schedule there was always time to support children in their activities and to include them in gatherings with the international visitors when appropriate.

Leo retired in 2000 after a constructive and enjoyable 40-year career. Upon retirement Foxboro Management presented the following: "Celebration of Excellence Award in Recognition of a Lifetime Career of Accomplishments, Achieving Outstanding Sales Results and Excellence in Customer Satisfaction".

During their 63-year marriage Jan was always a positive and loving contributor to both the family and business life. Leos retirement coincided with Jans, expanding their life together and family travel increased to Colorado, Minnesota, Chicago, and Annapolis supporting grandchildrens activities. West Point Reunions and school reunions were always enjoyed.

International travel continued to Europe to visit friends and to reacquaint with the wine areas of Pfalz, Rheingau, Mosel, and Alsace. Trips to Ireland to search for McEvoy and Mone ancestry were accomplished. A trip to Rome and the highlight visit to St. Peters Cathedral with our local pastor Father Degagne saying Mass and Leo as lector in the Irish Chapel almost directly under the main altar close to St. Peters Grave.

Civic activities included a member of the Easton School Committee; Trustee of Cardinal Cushing General Hospital and Good Samaritan Medical Center; Trustee of Frothingham Memorial Park. Also, a member of the Easton Historical Society, NEGHS, and the American Legion.

Leo was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Parish of North Easton, following in the footsteps of Great Grand Parents James and Mary (Conlin) McEvoy who were among the first parishioners in 1852. Enjoyed serving from Altar Boy to Lector over the years. During retirement Jan and Leo were daily communicants at morning Mass. Leo was recognized as the 2017 Marian Medal Award Recipient for dedicated service to the Immaculate Conception Church by the Bishop.

Leo will be fondly remembered by his son John McEvoy and family of Milton, Massachusetts, grandchildren Micah Dawson (Lizz), Eli Dawson (Sophia), and great-grandson Gus Dawson of Denver, Colorado. His sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marilyn and Fred Hozeny, sister-in-law Nora Mone as well as one niece and two nephews, and one grand niece and three grand nephews. Leo was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Janice McEvoy, daughter Susan McEvoy-Strong (Dana), daughter Kathryn McEvoy-Law (Cameron), and a brother-in-law Donald Mone.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 193 Main Street, North Easton, Massachusetts 02356.
