Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Greg Eierman on July 2, 2011:

... Something is (not) right...
As I woke this morning, something did not seem right.
It was like the feeling when you come home and no one is around, the lights are dim and everything is just too still, or rolling over in bed and noticing that your partner is not present.
It was like getting dressed and reaching for your favorite jeans or comfy sweater only to discover that they are not there.
It was like looking for your favorite book and noticing that is missing from its place on the shelf, you search for it because it contains a piece of critical information, but it is gone.

As I woke this morning, something did not seem right.
Because a wonderful and amazing man is gone from this earth, he passed yesterday and there is a void, a gap, a hole.
His caring, tender, thoughtful presence beside each one of us is no longer physically there.
His embrace, enveloping us in laughter, love, support and encouragement; we can no longer feel and hear.
His wisdom and knowledge, shared openly and freely, are no longer available in person, by phone, or in ways that we are used to.

As I woke this morning, and took the time to reflect, slowly I became thankful as I recognized that something is quite right.
Because despite the painful and heart wrenching loss of a husband, father, grandfather, friend, leader, and hero; what he brought to this world and to all of us is more valuable that we could ever know.
Wherever we are, he is there with us. He will always be present within everyone whom he ever met. He is not only beside us, but inside us as he left a legacy of love and kindness and joy.
He is the coat that warms us in the cold and the cap that shades our eyes in the glare. His calm, peaceful way has shown us how to live life and love each day.
His wisdom is a book we can always turn to... not only what he taught us, but also how he taught us to seek knowledge and to learn every step of the way.

As I wake each and every day from now on, I will thank him and thank God for what is right.
An incredible person touched each one of us and we are the better for it.
We will miss him dearly and I thank him for the wonderful examples he demonstrated each day, for the comfort and joy he provided, and for the lessons that he taught.
The vacuum created by his departure from this earth is overfilled with all the blessings which he brought to us, so we will celebrate what is right and rejoice in his honor and his memory.
