Donald J Barlow -- December 10, 1934 -- June 29, 2011

Donald J. Barlow, age 76, of 89 Cutter Circle, Bluffton, SC died on June 29th after a short illness.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Roberta (Bobbie). He is also survived by two daughters, a son and their spouses; Kathy and Greg Eierman of Atlanta, GA; Karen and Jeff Bertocci of Raleigh, NC; and Donald, Jr. and Darci Barlow of Denver, CO; and seven grandchildren; Lindsay, Heather and Courtney Eierman, Connor and Nicholas Bertocci, Brynn and Daven Barlow.

Don grew up in Batavia, New York.  He graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY in 1957 and received his MBA from Syracuse University in 1969.  He spent 29 years in the Army (1957-1986).  He served with the 11th Airborne Division and 24th Infantry Division in Germany, the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft Bragg, NC and the 5th Special Forces Group (Abn) in Vietnam.  Later in his career, he served tours as the Treasurer, United States Military Academy, Commandant of the US Army Finance School and Deputy Commander, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN.  He graduated from the Army War College in 1979.

Decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Following his retirement from the Army in 1986, he was appointed Assistant Secretary of Revenue in Raleigh, NC.  He served in this capacity for more than ten years and was responsible for the operation of all the Audit and Revenue offices located in the state of NC.

Don will be buried at the West Point Cemetery on Friday, July 22, 10 AM.
