Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Harold Lyon on July 14, 2018:

IN MEMORY OF DONALD J. PALLADINO

Don was a one of a kind caring and empathic friend. He and I shared the experience of both receiving our appointments to West Point from then Senator John F. Kennedy, an honor of which we were both proud.

Don invited Karin & me to join him at his Cape Cod home just after our USMA 55th reunion, a fun, memorable visit during which Don graciously gave us tours of the National Cape Cod Sea Shore, and amazed us by sharing how he was organizing monumental efforts to restore the natural salt water marshes -- the spawning areas for most of the alewives and other forage fish which are the main food for the striped bass, blue fish, and other native fish of the Cape Cod region -- marshes which had succumbed to developers who had built expensive houses in the area after building a dam which blocked the natural fertile salt waters from flowing in and out of the marshes, thereby eliminating the principal spawning grounds for the forage fish. Don explained how he was raising money to purchase each of the costly homes from their owners, in order to raze each of them to restore this large Cape area back to the natural salt marshes they once were. Karin and I were blessed to share this wonderful visit at his home for two days and nights thanks to Don's gracious hospitality. We send our heart-felt sympathy to Don's family, of whom he was very proud. We will miss you Don and are proud of your many selfless contributions to wonderful worthy causes and to your family and professions. Well done! Be thou at Peace.
