Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Stanley Bacon, Jr. on November 19, 2016:

I was on the swim team with Goody for four years. He swam distance while I was a puny sprinter. Firstie year he co-captained the team with his roommate Pat Kirk with great effect.

At my suggestion he took up the guitar, took to it quickly, showed a natural talent for music, and was soon giving me pointers. Though with no Spanish in his background, he quickly learned a number of Mexican songs, added to our repertoire as well as folk songs he championed. We did a few gigs together--Bill Lewis's square dances, company picnic at "Delapuddle."

He and I spent a month in Mexico City and Acapulco together Firstie Summer. He was a great travel companion. I recall that at parties we attended with the American community, he had the young ladies falling all over him.

Goody was personable, adventurous, creative, fun loving and very likeable. Save for one recent reunion, I had no contact with him beyond graduation; only fond memories of a warm relationship.
