Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jack Bujalski on March 10, 2002:

Tom and I were company mates for four years, but it was not until First Class year that I got to know him reasonably well. We double dated. He was dating Maddy and I was dating Rachel, who had access to a car. Tom knew where to go, and many a Saturday afternoon we were out the gate together. He went Army, I went Air Force, but both ended up on Okinawa at the same time in the early 60's. We were living off-base when one particularly violent typhoon neared: Tom and Maddy were on-post, where the homes were better built, and they took us into their home to ride out the storm with them. The storm missed the island, but we had a great time anyway. I will always remember Tom for his wry humor and cheerful outlook on life: he might be up to his hips in a swamp, but the alligators were'nt a problem.
