Be Thou At Peace

Posted by William Breen on February 2, 2021:

Bill Luther was known for possessing a high level of personal energy. As a cadet, he charged into every challenge with elan and precision. He was so well known for his meticulous note-taking that it was standard practice for us to review his notes before exams instead of our own.
As his "Buddy" during Ranger School, I witnessed his enthusiasm for all things physical. We crashed through the course, for better and worse. One example was his threat to throw an allied student out of a raft because he was not "pulling his weight."
His contributions to the Army mission and to Auburn University are cataloged elsewhere. But when we spoke, the subject inevitably turned to Ranger School and we addressed each other at "Buddy" throughout our lives.
He met his illnesses with the same energy that he displayed over a lifetime. He was always convinced that he would win in the end.
Farewell, Buddy.
