Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Matt Santos on July 26, 2022:

USMA Major Melecio "Junie" Santos lived a celebrated life after his birth on Dec 15th, 1934 in Corregidor in the Philippine Islands... At the age of 10, his mother Felising (Feliza) Zamora Santos was captured and subsequently killed during WWII by the enemy as they attempted to capture his father (USMA Lt.Col Melecio Santos)... At age 13 he embarked to the US where his father was assigned as the base commander @ Fort Baker Sausilito CA at the northern foot of the Golden Gate Bridge....In 1954 at the age 20 he was accepted into West Point as a son of a career military personnel and with the endorsement of then congressman John Shelly...In 1961 he was then married to his surviving and beloved wife, Marilyn Abing on the island of Oahu, HI... Upon retiring as a Major from the USMA after seeing combat in Vietnam, they raised their son Mark David and continued their blessed life with daughter-in-law Dale Nakagawa and grand-daughters Kira Miyuki and Ezri Areya.

Junie was full of life that included plenty of laughter. And in spite of tragic events early in his life he showed by example how a life can be well lived. He will be missed.
