Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Lt Gen (ret) Joseph M Cosumano Jr on April 23, 2014:

Dick Queeney was a Ltc on active duty in 1977, when I was assigned to the Patriot Program Office as a Captain in Huntsville, AL. It was my first acquisition assignment, Dick was the head of the Military Applications Branch of the Project Office. I was petrified, so many smart engineers. Dick took me under his wing, Lorrie took my wife, Lydia, under her wing.

Dick was an Aviator and so was I, we shared stories and bonded instantly. Dick was smart, experienced and proactive. His casual, yet helpful demeanor, did much to help me transition into the Program office and their help was invaluable to a younger military couple.

Dicks Military Applications Office played a key role in ensuring that Patriot was designed and built for SOLDIERS to fight and operate. He made a huge difference -- as they say, the rest is history -- Patriot fought and won the first anti-missile wars of Desert Storm and later Iraqi Freedom.

By all measures, he was a super Engineer -- but behind the scenes, he was an equally good mentor -- my career took off thanks to Dick Queeney, I can thank him for my successful command in Desert Storm as a Patriot Brigade Commander and later as a LTG, Commander of Space and Missile Defense Command during Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

Rest Easy !!!
Thank You

LTG Joe Cosumano Jr
