Be Thou At Peace
Posted by BG RM Ong (Ret) on October 28, 2016:
I remember Cadet Sam Wasaff very well. We were members of the famed West Point Glee Club as well as the Catholic Choir, during our 3 years together (Sam was one year ahead of me). As a Senior (First Classman), Sam also conducted the Choir.
It was during our Glee Club experiences together that I got to know Sam very well. He was always upbeat, had a finely-tuned sense of humor and seemed to be in the midst of all the noise. We all liked the guy, who always had a smile for everybody.
Sam's true character stood out after our formal concerts, as the Glee Club members gathered together in a bar-restaurant with our friends, relatives, and blind dates to sing the rest of the night away. Sam was always there, with his unique repertoire of "non-Glee Club" songs, to lead us headlong into illustrating our motto -- "No fun without music, no music without fun!"
We parted ways after Sam graduated. Our paths never crossed again.
Goodbye, Sam! You were always a great friend. Here is my final salute! Be thou at peace.
