During our first class year, I kept a leery eye on Gary's grades posted in the sally port as well as those of Homer Holland. Gosh those two were smart. Many slack off after four years of academic pursuits, but I did not since I was pursuing Gary to climb from 3rd in class rank to second. Try as I might, I couldn't catch him. We separated at graduation with Gary going Air Force and I to the Army. Years later once the Class Forum was active, Gary and I often engaged once more in academic debates. One had to prepare to cross wits with him, and a partial win was the most you could ever expect. But it was a joy to debate with Gary, he based his arguments on facts and logic, never reverted to personal assaults or wild declarations. Since his passing we have missed his wisdom and ideas.
