Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Brig. Gen. R.M. Ong (Ret) on May 28, 2019:
Greetings from Manila, Philippines!
Memorial Day 2019 is a good time to remember my classmate, LTC Bill Sartor (Ret). I knew him only as a Cadet, and my memories of him have dimmed thru the years. We didn't spend Beast Barracks or Plebe Year together, because he joined us as a sophomore or Yearling, and spent only 3 years as a member of our Class.
Bill belonged to another Regiment, so his barracks were some distance from mine. Our meetings were infrequent and mostly during social occasions, like hops (dances) and attending sports meets as spectators. Bill was one of the quieter members of our Class, and I suspect that he remained that way during the rest of his military career.
After graduation, Bell joined his Army and I returned to my country to join my Army as well. We both served in Vietnam at the same time, but our paths never crossed there. I'm not sure if Bill attended our 40th or 50th Reunion at West Point. If we did, we probably howdied and shook.
An now, my final salute to a classmate, who served his country well. Be thou at peace, amigo!
