Be Thou At Peace

Posted by BG R.M. Ong (Ret) on June 1, 2021:

Greetings from Manila, Philippines! Memorial Day 2021 here is bright and sunny -- and a good time to remember my West Point classmate, Cammy Lewis.

Cammy and I belonged to the same Regiment, so I saw him often, although I do not recall seeing him in the same classroom. So, I never really got to know him well. I do recall him as a friendly fellow. But his fame at West Point -- from the very beginning -- was his role as the starting Quarterback of the Army Football Team. It was a joy to watch him on running plays and pass plays as he contributed all those points that gave Army a winning season, year after year.

Cammy and I parted ways on Graduation Day, and our paths never crossed again. He joined the US Army while I served with the Philippine Army. I do know that we were both in Vietnam at the same time, but somehow, we never did meet over there.

Well done, Cammy. Be thou at peace!

And now my final salute to my friend and classmate!

Brigadier General Ramon M. Ong (Retired)
Armed Forces of the Philippines
