Be Thou At Peace

Posted by BG R.M. Ong (Ret) on September 24, 2020:

I remember Wally Speed only as a Cadet. We were barracks neighbors -- he was in Company D-2, while I was in E-2 -- as well as classroom neighbors, in several subjects, including Phys Ed. Wally was a friendly guy, albeit in a quiet sort of way. I do remember his giving me a few dance instructions in the Weapons Room, a kind of social hall where friends could chat while enjoying a burger and milkshake.

Wally and I parted ways after Graduation Day -- he served his country and I served mine. We were in Vietnam together, but our paths never crossed.

I was able to attend our 40th and 50th Class Reunions at West Point, but I do not recall seeing Wally there.

I am sorry to learn that Wally has passed away. And now, here is my final salute to an old friend.
