Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Curt Morgan on May 4, 2011:

I have a tiny slice of life of which to remember Akos, from a junior high science class we shared. I was making a presentation in front of the class. I don't recall the specifics, but, I had got my hands on rubber-coated maps from WW II, which I was using to some end or another. The maps - I believe they were for Navy submarines - were ten or 15 years old. As it happens, the pages were sticking together rather badly. Akos spoke up: "This should not happen to these military maps!" At time (age 13 or so), well, I was not pleased: he'd interrupted my presentation, and, anyhow, I didn't design the maps! Years later, however, it occurred to me, here Akos was, in eighth grade, concerned about his gear, and already thinking like a soldier.
