Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Gerald C Werner on December 11, 2016:

It's been mentioned by others that Dennis chaired the honor committee in our 1st Class Year. I can say that without a doubt Dennis lead us through some very thorny issues, demonstrating tremendous judgment and leadership at a young age.

Dennis had brilliant mind (wore academic stars) had a strong body and a possessed great sense of humor. More than that he was a gifted leader.

Though my brain fogs over on some things...50 plus years is a long time...my mind is clear about the strength I felt in an intramural wrestling match with Dennis. I didn't know him much until then. He was a compact ball of muscle and one knew at the moment of the first grapple he was in for a battle. Not sure if Dennis pinned me, but he probably beat me soundly.

In the summer of 1963, Dennis was selected as King of the Beasts as it was our class's turn to train and mold the new class of 1967. I served on the "Beast Staff with Denny as adjutant. Bill Landgraf...who passed some years ago was also with us...as well as Chris Shore. I'd post a pic here but that doesn't seem possible. But Denny was at the top of his game. His leadership skills showed a remarkable development at the age of 21 or so and he lead us to a very successful mission accomplishment as the Class of 1967 will attest! It was both hard work and fun being on Denny's staff and I'm sure it was thus throughout his Army career!

God Bless you Dennis and may you march proudly into the bosom of heaven!
