| The reunion and visit to Bob's grave once again reminded me of the loss of one of the closest friends I ever had. Bob was a joy to know. He and I tried for more than two years' to be "roomies" and it just didn't work. He was on staff or I was. At Ranger school, we thought we'd arrived until he fell off of an obstacle and hurt a knee. But I remember well a very gifted guy with a ready smile and quick wit. Bob's folks were like second parents to a lot of us in '64. I sincerely believe that I am a better person for having been a friend/compatriot of Bob's, and only wish we could have continued. The loss was not just ours, but Bob would have been a valuable contributor to our country/society. Bob, we miss you... |
