Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Marty Michlik on August 5, 2006:

Jed was in graduate school at the University of Illinois when I got orders to go for my master's degree in 1969. He helped me greatly in my move from Fort Benning to Champaign and we car pooled for the year we overlapped. I got to know him then as we lived a block apart and, with his help, even had the same landlord.

Jed had incredible talent and was unfailingly upbeat in all he did. I still remember his advice when I was complaining about the rigors of graduate school and wishing it would come to a speedy conclusion. "Don't wish your life away'" he told me. I took his advice then and have thought of it many times over the many years since when facing various challenges. I remember seeing Jed and his daughter Debbie during our 40th reunion and was impressed how he had changed so little. The Class of ?64 is lucky to have had him as a member.
