My brother Pete was as fine a man as I'll ever meet. He was at once good friend, loyal and caring family man, diligent scholar, and, in the classic sense of the term, a genuinely nice guy. Back in thee 80's I was in DC on business and Pete was still in uniform at the Pentagon. Before going to work he drove me to National Airport, but the car dropped a tailpipe on the way. Instead of calling a tow truck, he pulled to the shoulder, went under the car in the uniform, wired the pipe into position, and got to the airport in time for my flight. A better friend there isn't. I'll miss him. Steve |
