Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michael Miller on February 5, 2017:

At the last reunion I had some really quality time with Dick. It seems that Dick had read my book about Vietnam and he wanted to reconnect with me because of it. What I discovered during our lengthy conversations was a guy of great depth and compassion.

I kept thinking, "Wow here is a great guy. I do wish that I had gotten to be better friends with him when we were cadets." But that is, as I am discovering, also true of most of my classmates who I am getting to know better because of our reunions.

Dick discussed with me some of his challenges as an officer and also as an official in the CIA. Great similarities with my own struggles in life, but then isn't that true of all of us? I was deeply impacted by his sincerity and integrity. I kept thinking that he was a great credit to West Point.

I was especially looking forward to talking with him at the next reunion. Now I guess that these discussions will have to wait until I get to heaven.
